About JiraniChat
Jirani is the Swahili word for neighbour.
A lot of what you need to know day to day is known by someone a few houses away: when the water is coming back, which fundi turned up on time, whether that noise last night was anything. JiraniChat is for asking them.
Who makes it
JiraniChat is made by Dali Data Africa, the team behind SORDA AI, a local awareness app used for news, community reports and maps. JiraniChat runs on the same accounts and the same groups. SORDA AI is where you go to see what is happening. JiraniChat is where you talk about it.
Where it works
We are starting in Tanzania, and the app is in English and Kiswahili. You can use it anywhere, but you will find more groups in places where people have already started them.
The meerkat
Meerkats live in groups and take turns keeping watch for each other. That seemed about right.
